VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore
Ryan Dee had a stellar performance on the mound while junior
Manny Corporan earned his first win in a Hartford uniform as the Hawks baseball team took down Binghamton, 2-1, in the series finale this afternoon. With the result, the Hawks improve to 4-20 overall and 3-9 in the America East while the Bearcats drop to 7-19 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
HARTFORD 2, BINGHAMTON 1
The series finale started as a pitcher's duel between as neither staring hurler allowed either offense to get going. Making his first start at Hartford, Dee shut down the Binghamton offense, setting down the first nine batters in order. With runners on the corners in the bottom of the fourth, Dee tallied his fourth strikeout of the game, ending the inning and keeping the Bearcats off the board.
Hartford would break the deadlock in the top of the sixth. With one out,
Kevin Koziol and
Jake Santiago recorded back-to-back singles before
Daniel Burnett was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. In the next at-bat,
Joseph Woronick would reach on base due to a fielder's choice, but his ball was hit deep enough in the infield to plate Koziol and give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. After six stellar innings, Dee was replaced by Corporan on the mound. Binghamton tied the game up in the seventh with a solo home run, but the Hawks would immediately respond.
Tremayne Cobb Jr. lead off the inning with a single to left before stealing second base.
Kevin Koziol followed up Cobb Jr.'s at-bat with a single of his own before the Hawks loaded the bases via a Santiago walk. Burnett would hit a deep fly ball into the right field foul territory, allowing Cobb Jr. to tag up and give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Corporan would start to settle in, not allowing Binghamton any chance of getting back in the game. The right-handed pitcher would strike out the final batter, securing his first win at Hartford and a 2-1 victory for the Hawk.

- Cobb Jr. and Santiago each had 2-for-3 days at the plate
- Cobb Jr. was walked intentionally twice on the afternoon
- Burnnett and Woronick each tallied one RBI each
- The Hawks combined four four stolen bases on the day
- Dee got the start on the mound, picking up a no-decision after striking out five batters, allowing no runs off three hits in 6.0 innings
- Corporan (1-0) earned the win, allowing one run off one hit and racking up three punchouts
- The win was the first for Corporan in a Hartford uniform
