STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Hartford softball team opened up its three-game weekend series this afternoon at Stony Brook. The Hawks dropped both games of the doubleheader against the Seawolves, losing game one, 11-0, before falling in game two, 1-0. Hartford drops to 13-24 on year and 2-9 in the conference, while Stony Brook jumps to 25-13 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
STONY BROOK 11, HARTFORD 0 (5 Inn.)
After a scoreless first inning, Stony Brook jumped out to an early 3-0 lead heading into the third. The Seawolves extended their lead over the Hawks in bottom half, tacking on eight runs in the frame. The lead grew to be too much for Hartford to overcome as the Hawks dropped game one, 11-0.

Hartford's ace,
Julianna Kocenski and Stony Brook's starter, Shelbi Denman were locked in a back-and-forth pitcher's duel up until the fifth inning where the scoring began. The Seawolves lit up the board first, bringing home the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to take a 1-0 lead over the Hawks. In the sixth, Hartford was able to load the bases after back-to-back singles from
Haley Cassidy and
Jordan Nastos followed by a walk drawn by
Kelsey Galevich. However, Stony Brook would hold Hartford off the board and take game two by a final score of, 1-0.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Caylee English (6-7) got the start in game one, taking the loss after allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and one walk over 2.1 innings
- Lauren Card pitched 1.2 innings of relief for English in game one
- Ally Beck and Galevich were the Hawks' lone baserunners in game one
- Kocenski (7-11) got the start in game two, she took the loss after allowing just one run on five hits while striking out three batters over 6.0 innings of work
- Nastos extended her hitting streak to eight games, going 2-for-3 at the dish in game two
