LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Hartford softball team dropped its non-conference season finale doubleheader at Siena. The Hawks lost game one, 7-1, before falling game two, 8-2. Hartford moves to 13-27 overall, while Siena jumps up to 22-21 on the season.
SIENA 7, HARTFORD 1
Siena got off to a hot start in game one, taking an early 1-0 into the second. Hartford responded in the third where
Jordan Nastos would reach after drawing a walk before stealing second base to advance herself into scoring position. After a wild pitch was thrown by the Saints starter, Nastos was able to show off her blazing speed and come all the way home from second to tie the game at one. However, Siena would regain its lead in the bottom half of the third, bringing two runners across the plate before tacking four more throughout the final three innings of the game. The Saints lead grew to be too much for Hartford to overcome as the Hawks would fall in game one, 7-1.
SIENA 8, HARTFORD 2
After a scoreless first few frames, the Saints got the scoring started in the third and fourth, taking a 4-0 into the fifth. Hartford was able to answer in next half inning with two runs to cut the Siena lead in half.
Sarah Serrano got the run parade started for the Hawks by drawing a four pitch walk to lead off the inning, which was then followed by a ground-rule double hit into right field by Nastos. With two runners in scoring position,
Milena Wilton would drive home Serrano from third with a ground ball to the second baseman.
Kelsey Galevich proceeded Wilton's RBI with a sacrifice ground out to third which brought home Nastos and closed the gap to 4-2. Siena would extend its lead over the course of the final innings of the game, driving home two runs in both the fifth and sixth. Despite a valiant effort to mount a comeback in the final frame, Hartford would drop game two, 8-2.
