BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Hartford softball team dropped its series opening doubleheader at Binghamton this afternoon. The Hawks lost game one, 10-3, before falling in game two, 1-0. Hartford moves to 13-29 overall and 2-12 in conference play, while Binghamton jumps to 18-19 overall and 5-6 against conference opponents.
BINGHAMTON 10, HARTFORD 3
In game one, Hartford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the opening half inning.
Emma Curry got the scoring started for the Hawks after popping a sacrifice fly to the catcher, bringing home
Haley Cassidy from third. Binghamton answered right away in the bottom half of the first with three runs before tacking on three more in the second to lead 6-1 heading into the third. The Hawks cut the Bearcats lead in half in the frame after
Kelsey Galevich and Curry drove home a run each. Galevich brought home
Olivia Wolk by lining an RBI single into right field before Curry would sky a sacrifice fly out to right, bringing home
Mara Sczecienski from third to cut the lead to 6-3. However, Binghamton extended its lead in the fourth and sixth innings, tacking on four more runs throughout the game as the Hartford would drop game one, 10-3.
BINGHAMTON 1, HARTFORD 0
The Hawks' starter,
Julianna Kocenski and Bearcats' starter, Allison L'Amoreaux were locked in an intense pitcher's duel throughout game two. Binghamton lit up the board first, scoring the lone run of the game in the third after launching a solo shot over the left field fence, taking a 1-0 lead into the fourth. Hartford's bats would be held off the board in game two, 1-0.
NEWS AND NOTES
- Caylee English (6-9) got the start in game one, she took the loss after allowing eight runs on six hits while tallying three strikeouts over 4.0 innings of work
- Lauren Card threw 2.0 innings of relief for English in game one
- Kocenski (7-13) received the start in game two, taking the loss after allowing just one run on five hits while tallying four strikeouts over 6.0 innings
- Wolk led the Hawks at plate, going 3-for-4 on the day with one run scored, one walk and one stolen base
