Track and Field Competes at the UMass Invitational

AMHERST, Mass. – The Hartford men's and women's track and field teams competed in the UMass Invitational this weekend. The Hawks walked away with outstanding performance on and off the track, taking home 16 top-five finishes which included three first place crowns and two school-record breaking marks. Junior Anthony Clavette and freshman Conor Convery go back-to-back meets shattering school records in the high jump and hammer throw.

HARTFORD MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The men finished fifth, tallying 61.50 points, 12.50 points ahead of Northeastern
  • Clavette took home the crown in the high jump after clearing a school-record height of 2.03m
  • Convery shattered his own school-record distance in the hammer throw, hurling 44.02m
  • Graduate student Nicholas O'Brien finished with the gold in the 1500m with a time of 3:56.73
  • O'Brien's time finished three-hundredths of a second off of Christian Deal's current school record of 3:56.70 set back at the 2021 New England Championships
  • Senior Dylan Murad took home the first-place finish in the shot put, throwing for a distance of 14.49m
  • Junior Cole Cayer ran 15:22.87 over 5000m to finish as the runner-up in the event
  • Senior Keon Cooper, junior Uchenna Duru, and freshman Joseph Lothamer wrapped up the men's top-five finishers
  • Cooper with 52.49m in the javelin, Duru throwing 42.88m in the discus and Lothamer clearing 3.65m in the pole vault
 
HARTFORD WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
  • The women finished fifth, tallying 48 points, three points ahead of Northeastern
  • Freshman Marlina Voker led the Hawks on the women's side, finishing third in the 100m and second in the 200m dash
  • Voker ran times of 12.53 and 25.40, respectively
  • Sophomores Abby O'Connor and Sydney Garrison each finished third in their respective events
  • Garrison cleared a height of 1.61m in the high jump, the fifth best mark in the America East
  • O'Connor ran a personal-best time of 17:38.69 over 5000m
  • Senior Nia Mills, junior Hannah D'Orso, sophomore Robyn Krafft and freshman Kayla Pelletier rounded out the women's top-five finishers
  • D'Orso and Pelletier finished fourth in each of their events
  • D'Orso ran 4:47.71 in the 1500m while Pelletier threw for 35.89m in the Javelin
  • Mills and Krafft finished fifth in their respective events
  • Krafft threw for a distance 38.36m in the discus while Mills crossed the line in a time of 12.59 over 100m

The Hawks return to action next weekend on Saturday, April 9 to compete at the Wilton Wright Invitational hosted by Southern Connecticut State University.
