HANOVER, N.H. – The Hartford softball team continued its busy week this afternoon with a doubleheader against Dartmouth. The Hawks dropped both games to the Big Green, losing game one, 2-1, while falling in game two, 7-2. Hartford drops to 11-17 on the season, while Dartmouth jumps up to 9-20 overall.
DARTMOUTH 2, HARTFORD 1
Dartmouth struck the board early in game one, taking a quick 1-0 lead after the first inning. Hartford was able to respond quickly in the top half of the second, tying the game at one off of a no-doubt homerun hit by
Samantha Ganaden. After the scoring was done in the first and second innings, Hartford's starter,
Caylee English was locked in a pitcher's duel against Dartmouth's ace, Brooke Plonka. However, the Big Green would regain their lead in the fourth tacking on one more run to lead the Hawks 2-1. Despite getting a runner into scoring position in the final frame, Hartford would fall in game one, 2-1.
DARTMOUTH 7, HARTFORD 2
The Big Green jumped out to another early 1-0 lead after the first in game two. Dartmouth would tack on one run in the second, before adding five more in the bottom halves of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 7-0 advantage over Hartford heading into the sixth. The Hawks were able to get two runs back in the seventh after a few fielding miscues were made by the Big Green's infielders, which brought
Jordan Nastos for the first run of the game. Hartford tacked on one more in the final frame off of a sacrifice fly lifted out to center field by
Olivia Wolk which drove home Ganaden. Despite the effort to mount a comeback in final inning the deficit would prove to be too much for the Hawks to overcome, as Dartmouth took game two, 7-2.
