Blaisdell Tosses Complete Game; Chavarria Tallies Three RBI to Lead Baseball Past UAlbany, 5-1

ALBANY, N.Y. – Tim Blaisdell pitched a complete game while Martin Chavarria paced the offense with three RBI as the Hartford baseball team defeated UAlbany, 5-1, this afternoon. The Hawks improve to 7-33 overall and 6-17 in America East play, while the Great Danes drop to 20-20 overall and 9-14 in the conference.

HARTFORD 5, UALBANY 1
Hartford wasted little time to take the lead, striking first in the second inning. With two outs, Tyler Holmes got things going with a single to left. Logan Cole and Kyle Hawes followed it up with back-to-back walks, loading the bases for Chavarria. Chavarria took full advantage of the opportunity, ripping a single to right field, plating Holmes and Cole and giving the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Blaisdell would reward his offense, shutting down the UAlbany bat's heading into the fourth inning. The Hawks would tack on one more in the fourth as Ben Maycock lead off the inning with a double to the right center gap, advancing to third by an error in the outfield. Maycock would later take advantage of a wild pitch, crossing the plate and extending the lead to 3-0.

The Great Danes would pull one back in the fifth, but Blaisdell would respond excellently, setting down the side in order in both the sixth and seventh innings to maintain the Hawks' 3-1 lead. The Hartford bats came alive again the eighth, adding on two more runs. Maycock continued his strong day at the plate, launching a homerun to lead off the inning. After the Hawks picked up two quick outs, Donnie Cohoon got on base with a single before Ryan Knight came in to pinch run. Chavarria came up clutch once again, ripping a double down the left field line, plating Knight and giving the Hawks a 5-1 edge. Blaisdell would continue to shut down the UAlbany offense, leading the Hawks to a 5-1 victory.
