WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — The University of Hartford Department of Athletics witnessed its student-athletes enjoy an exceptional academic semester this past spring. The Hawks continued their success in the classroom, combining for a 3.42 grade-point average during the Spring 2022 semester. 
 
It marks the 32nd consecutive semester that Hartford's student-athletes have posted at least a 3.0 departmental GPA. 
 
"I am beyond proud of our student-athletes tenacity and commitment to academic excellence," said Associate Director of Athletics for Academics and Student-Athlete Success/Senior Woman Administrator Denise Marchese. "The ability to achieve this level of academic success while balancing dedication to athletics is tremendous."
 
Hartford saw 80.4 percent of its Hawks earn a GPA of 3.0 or better this past spring. In addition, 55 percent achieved at least a 3.5 GPA, while 57 Hawks posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
Setting the pace for the Hawks was the volleyball team, which combined for a 3.85 GPA. A whopping 100 percent of the squad's roster combined for a GPA of at least 3.0, with eight of its nine members posting at least a 3.5 GPA. 
 
Seeing all 20 of its 20-member team earn a GPA of 3.0 — with 13 of those student-athletes turning in GPAs of 3.5 or higher — the women's soccer team posted the second-highest GPA in the department with a 3.70. The men's lacrosse team paced the Hawks' men's programs, ranking third overall with a 3.69 GPA, seeing all 11 members post at least a 3.0 GPA.
 
The Hartford softball team also had an outstanding Spring semester, combining for a 3.68 GPA. They were followed by the women's cross country (3.64), women's track and field (3.60) and women's golf (3.49) teams. On the men's side, men's golf posted a 3.47 GPA followed by men's track and field with a 3.38 GPA.
 
The University of Hartford Department of Athletics has enjoyed unprecedented success in the classroom for quite some time. The Hawks have won seven total America East Walter Harrison Cups, which is presented to the institution whose student-athletes post the highest GPA during the academic year, including six of the last nine.
