Hawks Land 221 on America East Academic Honor Roll

BOSTON — A whopping 80 percent of Hartford student-athletes received America East Academic Honor Roll distinction for the 2021-22 season, the organization announced on Thursday. 
 
Student-athletes who were members of the baseball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross-country, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's indoor/outdoor track and field, volleyball and softball teams for the Hawks who had a GPA of 3.0 or better were named to the America East Academic Honor Roll. In total, 221 of Hartford's 274 participants posted a GPA of 3.0 or better during the academic calendar to earn the recognition.

Most impressively, more than 58 percent of those recognized (160 student-athletes) earned Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction for achieving at least a 3.5 GPA.
 
The volleyball team was outstanding this past year with 100-percent of its roster earning Academic Honor Roll distinction. The Hawks landed 12 of its 13 student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, as all but one members (92%) posted at least a 3.5 GPA, including five (Greta De Gasper,Valerie Diede, Robin Helms, Alex Lucero and Camryn Luginbuhl) that earned perfect 4.0s.
 
In addition to volleyball, men's lacrosse landed 100 percent of its student-athletes on the Academic Honor Roll. Among the 11 members on the roster, 9 (81%) received Commissioner's Honor Roll Status, with Sebastian Bonaiuto, Joe Prikhodko and TJ Summers earning a perfect 4.0 GPA.
 
The women's soccer team had the second highest percentage of Academic Honor Roll members among its Hartford peers, with 96 percent of its 25 members (24 student-athletes) receiving the distinction. Men's soccer saw 18 of its 27 members reach the 3.0 GPA threshold, with 11 being named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

The softball team knocked it out of the park this past year, as 18 of its 20 (90%) student-athletes were named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 16 also receiving Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction. Baseball had 24 student-athletes named to the Academic Honor Roll, with 11 named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. 
 
The women's lacrosse team also had a successful semester in the classroom, with 14 Academic Honor Roll members (82.3% of the roster), including 10 who collected Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition.

The men's basketball team saw eight of its student-athletes earn Academic Honor Roll distinction, with three earning Commissioner's Honor Roll recognition. Women's basketball saw nine of its student-athletes land on the Academic Honor Roll list, with six earning Commissioner's Honor Roll status.

Men's indoor and outdoor track and field, led Hartford's teams with 31 student-athletes landing on the Academic Honor Roll, 19 of whom earned at least a 3.5 GPA. The women's indoor and outdoor track and field team saw 85.7 percent of its roster earn the Academic Honor Roll distinction, as 24 of its 28 student-athletes received the honor, with 20 named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
 
Women's cross country saw 12 of its 14 members (85.7%) named to the America East Academic Honor Roll, while the men's cross country team had 15 of its 18 student-athletes (83.3%) receive recognition. The women's cross country team saw 10 student-athletes receive Commissioner's Honor Roll Status, while the men's cross country team had 11 Commissioner's Honor Roll members.

In addition to the 15 sports that are sponsored by the America East, Hartford's men's and women's golf teams, which compete in the Big Sky Conference and the MAAC, respectively, also put up big numbers in the classroom this past year. Women's golf posted a 3.49 GPA, while men's golf combined for a 3.47 team GPA.
 
As a department, Hartford enjoyed an outstanding year in the classroom as the Hawks took home its eighth Walter Harrison Academic Cup, combining to post a 3.42 departmental GPA. Three of Hartford's 15 America East sponsored athletic programs recorded the highest GPA among their peers. The volleyball team highlighted the list of winners for the Hawks, as they earned the highest Hartford team GPA (3.84). Joining them as the top team in the league was softball (3.72) and women's track and field (3.64).
