FARMINGTON, Utah — Four members of the Hartford men's golf team were recognized by the Big Sky Conference for their academic excellence, the organization announced.
Michael Amari,
Conor Byrne,
Jared Winiarz and
Bryce Zimmerman were each named to the Big Sky All-Academic Team.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must have met and/or exceeded the minimum requirements, including a minimum 3.2 GPA. Student-athletes also must have participated in at least half of the team's competition and must have completed at least one academic term at his/her current Big Sky institution.
A business major, Amari earns a spot on the All-Academic Team for the second time in as many seasons. Posting a 76.78 stroke average, the Townsend, Mass. native recorded two top-25 finishes across seven events last season, including a season-high 14th-place finish at the Macdonald Cup.
Byrne, a business major, also earns a spot on the All-Academic Team for the second time in his career. A native of Strabane, Northern Ireland, he enjoyed an incredible sophomore season, posting the second lowest stroke average on the team with a 73.93 mark. He also posted the lowest score in a round for the Hawks, shooting a 67 at the LIU Shark Invitational. Bryne also posted the Hawks best result at the Shark Invitational, finishing in third place.
Winiarz, a native of Norton, Mass., receives All-Academic Team distinction for the fourth straight season. The business major competed in 10 events this past season, posting a 74.59 stroke average. He also paced the team with seven rounds of par of better, including a season-best single round score of 69. Winiarz's best finish came at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bulls Bridge, where he finished in eighth place.
A business major, Zimmerman rounds out the Hawks honorees. The Nashua, N.H., native enjoyed a solo rookie campaign, posting a 76.32 stroke average across nine events. Zimmerman's best finish came at the Ryan Lee Memorial Collegiate, where he finished tied for sixth after posting a one-under 143.
