DURHAM, N.H. – Senior Greta De Gasper tallied a team-high seven kills and eight digs as the Hartford volleyball team fell to St. Francis Brooklyn in its season opener, 3-0. With the result, the Hawks move to 0-1 on the young season while St. Francis Brooklyn improves to 1-0.

SET 1: ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN 25, HARTFORD 15
The game started out as a back-and-forth affair as both teams entered a 2-2 deadlock. The Hawks would then take over, going on a 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead. However, St. Francis Brooklyn responded with a 7-2 run of their own, forcing the Hawks into taking a timeout after taking a 9-8 lead. The Terriers would open up a two-point lead, but a kill from De Gasper cut the gap back to one, 12-11. St. Francis Brooklyn however, would use a 7-1 run to reopen the gap and ultimately take the first set, 25-15.

SET 2: ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN 25, HARTFORD 15
The second set started just like the first, as both teams traded points to start the set, seeing the score be tied at 3-3. The terriers would start to take a lead, but a kill from Uzezi Ijoma followed by a St. Francis Brooklyn attacking error saw the gap be closed to one, as the Terriers lead, 7-6. However, the Terries would use a 7-0 run to extend the gap before kills from De Gasper and Lindzi Thomas fueled a 3-0 Hartford run, pulling the Hawks within six, 17-11. However, the late run would not be enough as St. Francis Brooklyn took the second set, 25-15.

SET 3: ST. FRANCIS BROOKLYN 25, HARTFORD 17
The third and final set proved again to be a close affair early on as the two sides played out a 4-4 tie. However, the Terriers would use a 4-1 stretch to take a 9-5 lead. The Hawks would not go down easy though, rallying for a 5-0 stretch of their own, fueled by two kills from De Gasper, to take a 10-9 edge. However, St. Francis Brooklyn would regain the lead, opening up a four-point gap, 16-12. The Hawks would pull within three, 17-14, after De Gasper's sixth kill of the match, but would not get any closer as the Terrier's took the final set, 25-17, and the match.
