Late Stonehill Goal Sinks Men's Soccer on Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – A late Stonehill goal saw the Hartford men's soccer team fall, 3-2, during Senior Day this afternoon. Mevlan Lebiti and Demario Cameron scored the goals for the Hawks. With the result, the Hawks move to 0-7 on the season while the Skyhawks improve to 2-4.

STONEHILL 3, HARTFORD 2
The opening minutes were quiet, as both teams went back and forth looking to break the opponent's defense. Rotem Fadida would be called into action early though, making an easy stop on a shot right at him in the fifth minute. The Hawks wasted little time generating their own goalscoring opportunity, breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute. Nate Becher worked the ball down the left flank, crossing the ball into the box where Mevlan Lebiti had an easy tap-in to put the Hawks up, 1-0.

Alex Quinones looked to double the advantage later on in the half, but his close range effort in the 27th minute was well saved by the Stonehill goalkeeper. Hartford's defense would come up clutch in the closing minutes of the half, as Stonehill looked to have a breakaway, only for a perfectly timed sliding challenge to deny the clear cut opportunity and kept the Skyhawks off the board. The defense would continue to hold firm, preserving the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

The second half started much like the first, as the two teams went back-and-forth in the opening 15 minutes. However, Stonehill would tie the game up from a free kick in the 62nd minute before taking a 2-1 lead one minute later. Hartford would fight back though, pushing for the equalizing goal. Their efforts would be rewarded in the 79th minute as Jordon May was brought down inside the box, giving the Hawks a penalty. Demario Cameron would step up from the spot for the second game in a row, burying his shot into the back of the net, leveling the game at 2-2. However, a late Stonehill goal in the 84th minute would seal the victory for the Skyhawks, 3-2.
