Jenkins named MVP as WSOC claims ECAC

MADISON, N.J. – The top-seeded University of Hartford women's soccer team made the most of its first-ever appearance in the ECAC postseason tournament as the Hawks claimed the championship with a 6-0 victory over third-seeded Pitt-Greensburg Sunday at Robert Shields Field on the campus of FDU-Florham.

In the two games, Hartford (16-2) outscored its opponents 13-2 to win the tournament.

Tournament Most Valuable Player Imani Jenkins finished with seven goals and two assists over the two games. She was joined on the All-Tournament team by senior Christina Stone, graduate Leah Barbieri, graduate Victoria Jedrychowski, and sophomore Lindsey Metcalfe.

It didn't take long for the Hawks to claim the lead as Jenkins took a pass from freshman Kathleen Brush and deposited it into the back of the net in the 20th minute. She added her second goal of the match seven minutes later with Stone and Jedrychowski getting credited with a double assist, and she capped the first half scoring as Jedrychowski assisted on the goal in the 36th minute.

The team had an offensive explosion midway through the second half as Hartford scored three times in nine minutes. Graduate Ishani Sharma scored in the 62nd minute off a Stone assist, Jedrychowski tallied a marker in the 70th minute with Jenkins getting the assist, and Stone capped the scoring in the 71st minute with Sharma getting the assist.

COACHES COMMENTS
"It was an unbelievable way to end the year," said Hartford Head Women's Soccer Coach John Natale. "Every team member contributed to this championship. I would like to thank the ECAC for giving us this opportunity to compete. They truly provide a platform for student-athletes to shine. I would also like to thank everyone at the University of Hartford, including the support staff and administrators who have helped and supported this program also the way. They played a big part in this very successful season.

"To President Mulready, Dean of Students Aaron Issac, and our Athletic Director David Goldenberg for supporting us during this memorable year. I am so proud and honored to be part of this program," Natale concluded.

  • Jenkins finished the season with school records with 82 points and 33 goals, while finishing second with 16 assists.
  • Jenkins has scored in 10 straight games to finish the season, including six straight matches with multiple goals. She has five games with at least three goals.
  • Stone established a new single-season mark with 19 assists. She had six matches this season with multiple assists.
  • Jenkins, Stone, and Kathleen Brush finished top three in the conference in points, while Stone, Jenkins, Brush, and graduate Ishani Sharma were the top four in the CCC in assists.
  • Hartford finished the season on a 12-match winning streak.
