The University of Hartford women's basketball team put its defensive prowess on full display Wednesday as they locked down Vermont State – Johnson 82-27 in non-conference action inside the Chase Family Arena.
The 27 points were the second-fewest points allowed in school history. Hartford allowed 25 points to Saint Joseph's during the 1978-79 season. Hartford didn't allow double-figure points in any quarter.
A 17-2 run that ended the first quarter and began the second quarter helped blow the game wide open and the Hawks were never challenged. Hartford forced four turnovers and limited the Badgers to 1-of-6 shooting during the game-deciding spurt.
Just one game after setting a Hartford freshman single-game scoring record of 31 points, freshman
Adrianna McCoy set a Hartford single-game record with nine steals. She added 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including 4-of-7 from three-point range.
Freshman
Taryn Blevins added 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc. Senior
Lenaijah Ferguson finished with career highs in points (11), rebounds (7), and blocks (2).
