WENHAM, MASS – Graduate
Trayon Rumley picked the perfect time to make his only shot of the game.
Substituted at the timeout with 20 seconds remaining, Rumley drilled the game-winning three-pointer with two seconds remaining to lift the University of Hartford men's basketball team to the 56-53 win over Gordon Saturday inside the Bennett Center.
It had been a dreadful shooting day for the Hawks as they connected on just 1-of-19 from beyond the arc until Rumley hit his shot.
For the most part, the Hartford lead didn't get over four points in the last 11-plus minutes, but the Hawks never surrendered the lead. Most of the time, Hartford played with five freshmen on the floor.
Gordon cut the lead to one twice and also tied the game twice, but each time a different Hartford player came up with an answer.
INSIDE THE BOX & NOTES
- Freshman Stephen Akwiwu finished with a career-high 24 points, marking the third time this season he has scored at least 20 points. He finished two boards shy of his fourth consecutive double-double.

- Freshman Zach Skinner played the most minutes in his career, teaming with freshman Henry Herman in the backcourt down the stretch against the Gordon press. He also scored his first collegiate points on a rebound and putback.
