Softball trio powers Hawks to win

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The trio of Olivia Wolk, Mara Sczecienski, and Kelsey Galevich generated the majority of the Hartford offense Sunday as the University of Hartford softball team concluded their stay at The Spring Games with a 7-5 win over Lafayette.

They combined to go 6-for-9 with a double, three homers, six runs scored and seven RBI as the Hawks scored all seven runs over the first two innings.

Wolk walked the lead off the first inning and jogged around to score on Sczecienski's second long ball of the season. Galevich went back-to-back with a blast of her own to chase the Lafayette starter.

After Neveah Terrell opened the second inning with a walk, the trio sprung back into action. Wolk doubled home Azya Walker, who pinch-ran for Terrell, and came around to score on a Sczecienski single. Galevich provided more power with a no-doubter over the centerfield fence.

Lafayette got back in the game with three runs in the fourth inning. The Leopards added an unearned run in the sixth inning and brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh inning.

Caylee English improved to 2-3 on the season, allowing three earned runs on five hits over four innings of work with five strikeouts. Carly Mayhood picked up her first career save by yielding two runs, one earned, over the final three innings.
