Box Score 2 NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The University of Hartford softball team dropped both ends of its doubleheader with Central Connecticut State Thursday.
GAME ONE: CCSU 4, HARTFORD 3
Hartford managed a pair of hits in the opener in falling to Central Connecticut State Thursday.
The Blue Devils scored a single run in the first inning and added a crucial three spot in the third inning the take the 4-0.
Senior
Mara Sczecienski started the fourth-inning rally with a one-out single and moved to second on a graduate student
Kelsey Galevich walk. A fielder's choice had runners on the corners with two out. Freshman
Taylor Fitch stole second, and Sczecienski scampered home on a throwing error. Hartford tacked two more on the board with another CCSU error.
Hartford didn't mount much more offense but did manage to have the tying run in scoring position with one out in the seventh inning. However, the Hawks didn't get the key hit to get that run home.

Carly Mayhood, 0-3, allowed four runs, three earned, on nine hits with four strikeouts.
GAME TWO: CCSU 3, HARTFORD 1
Freshman
Mikayla Gordon snapped the CCSU bid for a perfect game with a pinch-hit bloop single with one out in the top of the sixth inning as Hartford dropped the nightcap, 3-1.
Three straight singles, the middle being of the bunt variety, pushed the first CCSU run across the board in the top of the first inning. They added a second run on a groundout to take the 2-0 lead.
CCSU added an insurance run in the sixth inning, but senior
Lauren Card prevented more damage with a bases-loaded strikeout.
Mayhood kicked off Hartford's last-gasp effort with a single in the seventh, and Sczecienski followed with a bullet to left field. A one-out RBI single by Nagel chased the CCSU starter. The reliever walked the first batter she faced, but then slammed the door with back-to-back strikeouts.
Caylee English, 2-4, allowed two earned runs on four hits over five innings with five strikeouts.
