Baseball Comes Up Short in Midweek Matchup Against Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The Hartford baseball team came up short in its midweek contest at Fordham on Tuesday, 5-3. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-13 on the year while the Rams improve to 11-14 with the win.

FORDHAM 5, HARTFORD 3
With Hartford's starter Dyllon King holding Fordham off the board through the first two innings, the Rams would threaten to open up the scoring in the bottom of the third. However, Michael Featherstone would come on in relief of King and strand two runners on board to keep the game scoreless.

Hartford would open up the scoring with three runs in the top half of the fourth inning after JJ Romatzick led off the frame working a walk before Devin Kellogg reached base on a fielding error by the Ram's pitcher after laying down a bunt. On the error, both Romatzick and Kellogg were able to advance into scoring position, giving Noah Rivera an excellent opportunity to bring home the opening run of the contest. Rivera would lift a deep fly ball out to center field resulting in a run after Romatzick tagged up from third base. Tyler Holmes immediately followed Rivera's sacrifice fly lining an RBI single up the middle to extend the Hawks lead to 2-0. After a single from Harrison Engstrom and fielding miscue by both the Fordham pitcher and third baseman Holmes would be able to come around and score, extending the Hartford advantage to 3-0.

Now leading by three, Hartford's bullpen looked to shut down the Ram's offense, however, in the fifth Fordham was able to find the scoresheet, plating five runs on a bases loaded walk followed by a grand slam off the bat of Sebastian Mexico. Despite having the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, Hartford was unable to close the gap, eventually falling to Fordham, 5-3.
