Baseball Comes Up Short in Series Finale Against Radford

RADFORD, Va. – The Hartford baseball team came up short in the series finale to Radford, 7-5, on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks drop to 0-3 on the young season, while Radford improves to 5-7 on the campaign.

RADFORD 7, HARTFORD 5
Radford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the opening frame. However, Hartford would immediately respond with three runs in the top of the second after a throwing error on a bunt from Jake Santiago brought home Noah Rivera from third. Rivera reached base earlier in the inning with a lead-off first-pitch double into center field. JJ Romatzick and Martin Chavarria continued the scoring output for the Hawks in the second, lifting back-to-back sacrifice flies to give Hartford a 3-1 edge. The Highlanders would pull one run back in the third, before regaining their lead at 7-3 after tacking two on in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two more runs in the eighth.

Looking to mount a comeback in the top of the ninth, Hartford would load the bases on two walks from Rivera and Ryan Knight along with a pinch-hit single from Cameron Boardman. Rivera would come around to score after a wild pitch from Radford's pitcher. Romatzick followed the wild pitch reaching base on a throwing error from the Highlanders' third baseman, bringing home Boardman in the process. Despite the valiant effort to mount a comeback, the Hawks would come up short, eventually falling to the Highlanders by a final score of, 7-5.
