Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Simmons

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Hartford softball team swept its doubleheader on the road today against Simmons. The Hawks took game one, 3-2, and finished off the sweep of the twin bill in game two, 6-5. Hartford improves to 13-13 on the season while the Sharks fall to 15-13 on the year.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 3, SIMMONS 2
Hartford wasted little time getting the offense rolling in game one, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead after the opening frame. Olivia Wolk led off the game with a double into left field, followed by an opposite field double from Emily Coffey to drive home the contest's opening run. Sarah Serrano would extend the Hawks lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI single driving home Azya Walker who led off the inning with a bunt single. Wolk followed with a knock of her own, driving home Serrano from second base and extending the Hartford advantage to 3-0. Despite the Sharks bringing the game within one run after the sixth inning, the Hawks would hold on for the 3-2 victory.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 6, SIMMONS 5 (12 Inn.)
After a scoreless first inning in game two, the Hawks would get the scoring started in the top of the second off a solo blast to center field from Kelsey Galevich. Shailynn Williams would extend Hartford's advantage on the scoreboard to two runs with her first career round tripper in the fourth inning. Simmons responded with one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead into the sixth inning. Trailing by one in the sixth, Samantha Nagel drove home Lauren Ackerman with a sacrifice ground out to the pitcher to tie the game up at three apiece. With the contest tied at three aside after the seventh inning, the game would head into extra innings where both sides would go back and forth trading runs into the 12th. Williams would step up to the dish and lace an RBI single into right field to bring home Caylee English and give the Hawks a 6-5 lead heading into the bottom half. After taking the lead in the top of the 12th, English would slam the door shut and finish off the two-game sweep for the Hawks.
