Hawks Shutout Wildcats in Doubleheader Sweep on Senior Day

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford softball team swept its doubleheader against Bay Path on Sunday afternoon. The Hawks took game one, 8-0, after a stellar pitching performance from Caylee English, before taking game two, 9-0. Hartford improves to 15-13 on the season while the Wildcats fall to 7-19 on the year.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 8, BAY PATH 0 (5 Inn.)
After a scoreless first inning on either side, Hartford jumped out to a four-run lead after the second inning. Azya Walker came across the plate for the game's opening score after leading off the frame with a single into center field. Anita Farkash followed Walker's single, driving a fly ball out to the left fielder. A Bay Path error allowed Walker to come home and score from first.

Olivia Wolk would keep the Hawk's momentum rolling, lacing a two-run double into the right-center field gap to bring home both Farkash and Nevaeh Terrell. Lauren Ackerman rounded out the Hartford offensive output in the second with an RBI ground out to second base, bringing home Sarah Serrano, and giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead heading into the third.

The Hawks would continue their early offensive momentum, scoring one run in the third and two in the fourth. Serrano and Wolk led off the fourth inning with back-to-back triples followed by an RBI single from Ackerman, extending the Hartford lead to 7-0. Taylor Fitch would end the game in the bottom of the fifth, lifting an RBI single into left field, plating Samantha Nagel, and taking game one, 8-0.

GAME TWO: HARTFORD 9, BAY PATH 0 (5 Inn.)
Hartford wasted little time opening the scoring in game two, jumping out to an early 5-0 lead after the opening frame. In the first, Samantha Nagel was fueling the Hawk's offense; driving home the game's opening runs on a double to left center, bringing home Emily Coffey and Mara Sczecienski. After three fielding errors from the Bay Path defenders, the Hawks would tack on three more runs in the opening frame to extend their advantage.

With a scoreless second inning from either side, Hartford would add three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a commanding 8-0 lead into the fourth. Azya Walker led off the inning, drawing a walk before Sarah Serrano singled through the left side while Wolk followed with a walk of her own to load the bases. Coffey stepped up to the plate with one out in the inning and ripped a two-run single up the middle of the infield to give the Hawks a seven-run lead. Kelsey Galevich followed Coffey's RBI single with a knock into right field to bring Wolk home from third base. After tacking on one more run in the fourth off a solo blast from Nevaeh Terrel, the Hawks would take game two and finish off the sweep, 9-0.
