Hawks Drop Midweek Matchup Against Marist

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team dropped its single-game midweek matchup to Marist, 17-6, on Tuesday afternoon at Fiondella Field. The Hawks fall to 2-25 on the season, while the Red Foxes improve to 8-26 on the year.

MARIST 17, HARTFORD 6
The Red Foxes wasted little time opening the scoring, jumping out to an early 3-0 lead after the top of the first. Hartford would respond in the bottom half with five straight hits to take a 4-3 lead after the opening frame.

Martin Chavarria led off the inning with a single into left field followed by a single from Noah Rivera. With no outs, Devin Kellogg stepped up to plate and laced an RBI double into the left center field gap to drive home Chavarria and get the Hawks on the board. Harrison Engstrom kept the bats rolling singling through the left side of the infield to bring home Rivera from third base and move Kellogg into scoring position. Ryan Melendez followed Engstrom ripping an RBI double down the left field line to tie the game up at three apiece. With one out in the inning JJ Romatzick lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Engstrom to race home and score, giving the Hawks a 4-3 advantage heading into the second.

Both sides would trade runs back and forth over the next couple innings, until Marist regained its early momentum from the first, plating five runs in the fifth, four in the sixth, and two more over the eighth and ninth innings to earn the 17-6 victory.
