Hawks Fall to Coppin State in Series Finale

HANOVER, Md. – The Hartford baseball team dropped its series finale to Coppin State, 11-3, on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-16 on the season while the Eagles improve to 10-17 on the year.

COPPIN STATE 11, HARTFORD 3
After two scoreless frames on either side, Hartford would get the scoring started in the top of the third with an RBI single through the left side from Noah Rivera, scoring JJ Romatzick who reached base after working a walk earlier in the inning. Coppin State responded immediately in the bottom half of the third for six runs of their own to take their first lead of the contest at 6-1.

The Hawks would get one run back in the fifth after Harrison Engstrom drove home Jeremy Mangiameli on an infield single to third base. Mangiameli entered the game as a pinch runner for Devin Kellogg who led off the inning with a double into right field. The Eagles would tack four runs onto their lead in the sixth to take a commanding 10-2 lead into the latter third of the game.

Hartford would pull one back in the eighth after Romatzick lifted a sacrifice fly ball out to right field, bringing home Joseph Woronick on the play. However, the deficit grew too much for the Hawks to overcome, eventually falling to Coppin State, 11-3.
