Baseball Comes Up Short in Midweek Matchup at CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Hartford baseball team dropped its midweek matchup against in-state rival Central Connecticut State on Tuesday afternoon 5-3. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-30 on the season, while the Blue Devils improve to 26-9 on the year.

CCSU 5, HARTFORD 3
The Blue Devils wasted little time getting the scoring started, plating the contest's opening run in the bottom of the first before tacking on one more in the second to take an early 2-0 lead. However, Hartford would immediately respond in the top of the third with three runs to take its first lead.

JJ Romatzick drew a walk to lead off the inning before being moved into scoring position after a single into the right-center gap from Jackson Ciccone. Martin Chavarria followed Ciccone's base knock with a line drive RBI single up the middle, bringing home Romatzick and cutting the deficit in half. Devin Kellogg continued the Hawk's momentum in the third, driving an RBI double into right-center field, plating Ciccone, and tying the game up at two. With two runners aboard and back-to-back walks drawn by Noah Rivera and Harrison Engstrom, Chavarria would cross the plate and give the Hawks a 3-2 edge over the Blue Devils.

CCSU would answer Hartford's scoring output in the bottom half of the third with a run of its own to tie the game up at three apiece. However, after two and a half scoreless frames, the Blue Devils would regain their early momentum, scoring a pair of runs in the seventh inning to take back their lead and hold on for the 5-3 victory.
