The University of Hartford Department of Athletics witnessed its student-athletes enjoy an exceptional academic semester this Spring. The Hawks continued their success in the classroom, combining for a 3.39 grade-point average (GPA) during the Spring 2023 semester.
It marks the 35th consecutive semester that Hartford's student-athletes have posted at least a 3.0 departmental GPA. In addition, all 17 programs combined to post team GPAs over 3.0.
"Our student athletes continue to demonstrate passion and drive toward academic excellence at the University of Hartford," said Associate Director of Athletics Denise Marchese. "I am beyond proud of our student athlete's commitment to balancing both sports and academics."
Hartford saw 80 percent of its Hawks earn a GPA of 3.0 or better this past Spring. In addition, 60 percent achieved at least a 3.5 GPA, while 39 Hawks posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Setting the pace for the Hawks was the women's soccer team, which combined for a 3.68 GPA. A whopping 94 percent of the squad's roster combined for a GPA of at least 3.0, with 13 of its 18 members posting at least a 3.5 GPA and three with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Seeing 81 percent of its team earn a GPA of 3.0 – with eight of those student-athletes turning in GPAs of 3.5 or higher and two with perfect 4.0 GPAs – the men's golf team posted the highest men's team GPA in the department at 3.50.
The women's golf and women's cross country teams also had an outstanding Spring semester, ranking second and third in the department with a 3.67 and 3.63 GPA, respectively. They were followed by women's lacrosse (3.58), women's track and field (3.46), women's volleyball (3.41), softball (3.33), and women's basketball (3.01).
On the men's side, men's lacrosse combined for a 3.36 GPA followed by baseball and men's cross country each with a 3.32 GPA. In addition, men's soccer (3.31), men's track and field (3.30), and men's basketball (3.14) all enjoyed strong Spring Semesters.
