Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Strong Defensive Effort in Loss

BRISTOL, R.I. – The University of Hartford women's basketball team dropped its fifth straight game, falling to reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference champion Roger Williams Tuesday, 48-34, inside the Campus Rec Center Gymnasium.

Hartford's defense did all it could do to keep it in the game, holding Roger Williams to a season-low 49 points. It was the offensive struggles that ultimately hindered the Hawks Tuesday. The 34 points were the second-fewest scored this season.

Midway through the second quarter, following a three-pointer by freshman Adrianna McCoy, Hartford trailed by just one point, 17-16. For the next 20 minutes, Roger Williams scored 24 of the next 30 points to open up its largest lead of the game.

Freshman Ella Marchesani and McCoy combined for 21 points to lead the Hawks. McCoy finished with 12 points, three steals, two assists, and two rebounds. Marchesani had nine points on 3-of-8 shooting.

Freshman Ava Naszimento pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds in just 23 minutes before fouling out.
