Hawks Fall to Wesleyan University

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Hartford women's soccer team falls to Wesleyan University on Tuesday afternoon by a 1-0 final.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks started strong, with graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) and sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) both taking powerful shots in the opening minutes. Cardinals goalkeeper Brumbach was up to the task, making crucial saves in the second and third minutes to keep the game scoreless. Wesleyan responded swiftly, launching a shot toward the bottom center, junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) was there to make the save and maintain the 0-0 stalemate. Jenkins continued to press, attempting another strike in the 33rd minute, her shot went high. The Cardinals pushed for a goal of their own, generating two more shots on net, Johnson's performance kept the Hawks in the game as they headed into halftime with the score still tied.

  • Hawks were again the first to strike on net coming off the foot of Jenkins that was stopped by the Cardinals keep. The Hawks got into some trouble as Jenkins was given a yellow card in the 62nd minute. Shortly after that call, the Cardinals were able to capitalize with a goal scored from Sullivan in the 66th minute, 1-0. The Hawks were ready to answer with four shots at the Cardinals net in the next eight minutes, these dangerous shots were taken by graduate student May Cervone (Milford, Conn.), Brush, and Jenkins. The final opportunity came in the 83rd minute with a shot from Cervone as it was saved by the Cardinals keep. Match concluded with final score, 1-0 Cardinals.

  • Junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) had three saves of the match, bringing her total to 22 for the 2024 season.
  • Juliette Sullivan of Wesleyan University netted her first career goal in today's match.
