Hawks Fall to Mount Holyoke on the Road

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. The Hartford Women's Volleyball team made the trek north this Saturday as they would play Mount Holyoke College in a non-conference match up. The Lyons of Mount Holyoke would take the match in four sets (25-18, 25-15, 24-26, & 25-21).

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks got off to a slow start falling behind quickly 4-1. They would mount somewhat of a comeback with two straight points of their own bringing the set within one. However, this was short lasted as Mount Holyoke would go on to score the next five points unanswered, putting the score at 9-4.Hartford would again bring things back scoring three straight points, but again would find themselves on the other end of a big run, as the score would find itself at 14-7 through the halfway point of set one. A couple of kills from sophomore Liahnnah Orange (Linden, NJ)  and sophomore Jenna Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) would breath some life into the Hawks. But unfortunately it would not be enough, as Mount Holyoke College would take set one 25-18.
  • Hartford would get the scoring started in the second set as they would take an early 3-0 lead. Mount Holyoke would bounce back however, evening things at four, then proceeding to go on a 6-2 run putting the score at 10-7. A back and forth would then ensue and with the help from a kill by Orange the Hawks would bring things within one (13-12) at the midpoint of the set. However a 9-1 run from Mount Holyoke would all but secure them set two as they would take it 25-15.
  • Mount Holyoke's momentum would carry over into the third set as they would start the set with a 6-2 advantage. However with the help of kills from Je. Murphy, sophomore Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.), and junior Sydney Ball (Enfield, Conn.) Hartford would mount a comeback bringing them within two a little over the halfway point 17-15. Mount Holyoke would try to pull away as they found themselves up 21-16. However a late 10-2 run for the Hawks would put them ahead as they would go onto take set three 26-24.
  • Entering the fourth set it was the Hartford momentum that seemed to spill over as this time they found themselves up early 6-2. This momentum would soon fizzle out as Mount Holyoke found their way back into the set evening the score at 10. This stalemate and back and forth would continue as the score would be tied once again 14-14. A series of blocks from junior Julianna Robinshaw (South Windsor, Conn.) and a handful of errors would give Hartford the advantage past the halfway point 18-15. Mount Holyoke would mount quite a comeback in response, as they would score six unanswered points to put them ahead 21-18. Although, the Hawks would fight back a little bit, unfortunately it wasn't enough as Mount Holyoke would take the fourth and final set 25-21.
