Hawks Fall to UNE on Saturday

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford volleyball team fell to the University of New England 3-0 on Saturday afternoon after a tough battle. Scores stood as 25-19, 25-19, and 25-11.

Rapid Recap: 
  • The Hawks and Nor'Easters opened the first set of the match with a close battle. Sophomore Jenna Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) claimed the first point on the board for the Hawks with a swift kill off of the hands junior Kylee Connally (Dallas, Texas). The Nor'Easters managed to force an error by the Hawks to put their first points up and take the lead, score was 4-3. The Hawks challenged the Nor'Easters forcing three errors on their court to go for a three-point run. This battle of runs continued as freshman Andrea Martir-Perez (Bristol, Conn.) served up a strong ace followed by junior Juliana Robinshaw (South Windsor, Conn.) slamming down a kill from sophomore Liahnna Orange (Linden,N.J.). Score stood even at 10-10. The Nor'Easters found their rhythm tossing up two four straight runs back to back  with key plays made my Pavlyuk. Robinshaw broke their streak dropping a kill on the Nor'Easters side of the court to bring the score to 19-17, Hawks still trailing. The Nor'Easters fought strong for this first set win as they forced errors from the Hawks and Gallagher of UNE silenced the fans with a powerful kill to take the set, 25-17.
  • The Nor'Easters opened the second set with power grabbing three straight points. Orange broke their streak with a kill off of a short exchange with Connally. Junior Amaiya Lu (Lawrence, Mass.) put her first point up for the Hawks with a challenging ace. The game was set for another close battle. Hawks trailed 5-4. The Nor'Easters went for a four point run forcing errors on the Hawks, 13-6. The Hawks attempted to close the differential with big plays from Jen. Murphy and sophomore Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.). It was not enough as the Nor'Easters ran away with the lead to take the second set 25-19.
  • The Nor'Easters were eager for a clean sweep with this set opening their first points with a five point run, key plays made by Hanley and Gallagher. Right after this run UNE claimed two four point runs to widen the differential to 15-3. Late in the match the coach of UNE was sanctioned with a red card and a point was awarded to the Hawks. Score was 16-7. Although this fired up the Hawks, the Nor'Easters tallied another run of four points. The Hawks found their rhythm late in this set not allowing the Nor'Easters to take this match easily. Robinshaw slammed a kill and then forced an error on UNE, 20-9. Jor. Murphy nabbed the last point for the Hawks with a powerful kill off the hands of Connally, 24-11. The Nor'Easters pulled away the final set 25-11 winning the match. 


Inside the Numbers:
  • Jor. Murphy lead the team offensively with eight kills and nabbed an impressive eight digs making that eight points in the match.
  • Robinshaw slammed down five kills and stopped the Nor'Easters with one block claiming 5.5 points today. 
  • Hanley of the Nor'Easters had 11 kills in this afternoon's match adding to her season total of now 256.
