CNE Championship Preview: #1 Hawks Women's Soccer Battle #3 Gordon College for CNE Title

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The University of Hartford women's soccer team hosts the Conference of New England (CNE) Championship for the first time in program-history on Saturday when they host Gordon College for the trophy.
 
No. 1 University of Hartford Hawks (13-3-2, 7-1-1 CNE)
No. 3 Gordon College Fighting Scots (10-4-5, 5-1-3 CNE)
 
Game Headlines:
Hartford will look to hoist the first CNE Championship since joining the conference while Gordon looks to win the CNE title after last winning the conference in 2021. 
 
Hartford Headlines:
  • The Hawks ended the year flying high, currently sitting on a nine-game winning streak and being ranked 24th in Division III. Hartford ended the year 13-3-2 with a 7-1-1 conference record, defeating Endicott College 2-0 in the CNE Semifinals on Tuesday. 
  • Offensively the team is led by graduate student Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) who ended the year as the CNE Offensive Player of the Year, as well as being selected as a first team all-conference selection. Jenkins currently sits with 22 goals, six assists and six game-winners on the season. Graduate student Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) was also a first team all-conference selection to go with winning the CNE Elite 20 award and Scholar Athlete of the Year. Stone so far has seven goals, a program-record 21 assists and three game-winners from the midfielder position. Sophomore Kathleen Brush (Wethersfield, Conn.) is another Hawk to watch making a CNE second team all-conference team with 12 goals and six assists headed into Saturday. 
  • Defensively the Hawks are led CNE Defensive Player of the Year junior Lindsey Metcalfe (Palos Verdes, Calif.) who has two goals and 1562 minutes played from the center back role. Metcalfe was also named to the first team all-conference as well as netting her lone game-winner in the CNE Semifinals. Graduate student May Cervone (Milford, Conn.) has also been exceptional in the right back position. She was a second team all-conference selection with two goals and eight assists so far in 2024. 
  • In net junior Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) leads the Hawks going 12-3-2 on the season only allowing 11 goals with 35 saves. Johnson was a second team all-conference selection and has been a part of nine shutouts. 
  • The Hawks averaged 3.22 goals per game this season while just allowing 0.61 per game. They have outscored opponents 58-11 and have not allowed a goal since October 23rd. 
Gordon College Headlines:
  • The Scots come into the CNE Championship with a 10-4-5 overall record while also being on a two-game win streak. In the first round Gordon defeated Roger Williams 3-1, before upsetting the University of New England by a 3-1 final. 
  • The offense is led by Eowyn Lapp who registered 21 goals and five assists so far with five winners. Lapp was a first team all-conference selection. Ava Forbes Smith was also a first team all-conference choice netting nine goals with three assists so far in 2024. 
  • Grace Forsey was a second team all-conference selection form a defensive position playing 1360 minutes of action. 
  • In net will be Emily Bengtson who is 9-4-4 with 89 saves and two shutouts. She was a third team all-conference selection. 
  • As a team Gordon College averages 2.26 goals per game while allowing 1.37 goals per contest.
