WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Hartford volleyball team concluded its 2024 season on Saturday falling to Wentworth Institue of Technology in four sets (25-16, 27-29, 25-22, 25-22).
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks and Leopards were even at 6-6 in the first set and after kills by sophomore Jordan Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.) and freshman Tiffany Mendez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) the home team saw a 11-9 lead. Wentworth would punch back going on a 7-1 run to take a 19-15 lead. Jo. Muphy would get one final kill as the Leopards took the first set 25-16.
- Hartford trailed early in the second set 10-5, however a 8-1 run late in the set highlighted by an ace by sophomore Kalle Legassey (Prospect, Conn.) had the home team ahead 20-19. The Hawks closed it out 29-27 on a block by sophomore Liahnna Orange (Linden, N.J.).
- The teams were even in the third set at 10-10, before the Hawks jumped in front 13-11. The Leopards battled back to lead 18-14, but the Hawks continued to fight back cutting the visitor lead to 20-19. Mendez would get two more kills, but Wentworth picked up the set three win by a 25-22 final.
- The Leopards cruised to an early 10-2 lead in the fourth set. The Hawks continued to chip away with kills by Mendez and Jo. Murphy, but the Wentworth controlled the set the whole way to win 25-22.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mendez led the offense with 15 kills to go with five digs. Jo. Murphy notched 13 kills to go with a pair of aces and digs.
- Orange led the passing effort with 17 assists to go with 14 digs.
- Sophomore Emilie Hatje (Middlefield, Conn.) led the defense with 16 digs.
