Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB Gets Back on Winning Side of Ledger

The University of Hartford's men's basketball team got off to a great start and made some big shots down the stretch to snap a seven-game losing streak with the 63-56 win over Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Curry Saturday in Chase Family Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.

Back-to-back three-pointers from freshmen Kaosi Chijioke and Henry Herman capped a 12-2 run to start the game.

Every time Curry seemingly pulled to within a couple of possessions, Hartford had an answer. The lead hovered around double figures for the entirety of the second half.

Herman led the team with 17 points with eight rebounds, while Stephen Akwiwu tallied another double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Jaylen Brown added 11 points.

INSIDE THE BOX AND NOTES
  • Hartford's eight three-pointers were tied for the second-most in a game this season. It has been done three times this season with a  season-high of nine.
  • Herman has reached double digits 10 times this season and Brown has achieved the feat six times.
  • Akwiwu has eight double-doubles this season. With his 13 rebounds, Akwiwu needs 15 rebounds to tie the Hartford freshman rebounding record. His average of 8.1 boards would be the freshman record by almost a full rebound.
  • Graduate Trayon Rumley tied a career-high with 10 rebounds.
  • The Hawks pulled down a season-high 55 rebounds, and for the ninth time this season outrebounded their opponent by double figures. The plus-17 on the glass was the highest rebound disparity this season.
