Blistering Start Lifts WBB

The University of Hartford's women's basketball team secured a hard-fought 68-62 victory over Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Curry College Saturday in the Chase Family Arena at Reich Family Pavilion.

In a decisive moment, freshman Adrianna McCoy displayed her composure by sinking two free throws, giving Hartford a three-point lead with just 18.0 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Hawks set the tone early with impressive runs to begin each of the first two quarters. In the opening quarter, they stormed ahead with a 10-0 run, followed by a dominant 16-0 run in the second quarter, showcasing the team's depth as five different players contributed to the scoring.

Hartford built its lead to as much as 30 points with almost seven remaining in the third quarter. Curry ended the half on a 13-0 run to trim the deficit. The Colonels added a 15-2 spurt in the fourth quarter to pull to within one with 42 seconds remaining.

Hartford secured the victory by going 6-of-8 from the line down the stretch.

McCoy and freshman Ella Marchesani combined for 31 points with 16 and 15 points, respectively. They added five steals each. Freshman Ava Naszimento added nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
