Mayhood Strikes Out Career-High in Split

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Hartford softball team split a pair of games during its Spring Break trip at the Tucson Invitational Games, marking the third straight day the team split a pair of games.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 13, DICKINSON 8
The University of Hartford pitching didn't allow a single earned run as the Hawks knocked off Dickinson, 13-8.

Sophomore Carly Mayhood (2-1) started and ended the game in circle with freshman Gracie Hopkins hurled 1.2 innings in the middle. Mayhood struck out a career-high 10 over 5.1 innings, allowing no runs on five hits. Hopkins surrendered eight runs, none earned, on five hits and a strikeout.

Graduate Mara Sczecienski drove in a career-high five RBI, going 4-of-4 with a run scored. Freshman Adelie Beebe went 2-for-5 with a double and three RBI.

Hartford raced out to a 6-0 lead thanks to a four-run second inning, and the Hawks added another run in the fourth innings. After Dickinson scored five unearned runs in the fifth inning to pull to within two, struck for four runs in the in the sixth. The Hawks added two more runs in the seventh inning.

INSIDE BOX & NOTES
  • Sczecienski tied a career-high with four hits, marking the second time in her career she achieved the feat. She was 4-of-4 against Siena on March 18, 2023.
  • Wolk has recorded a hit in all seven games, six of them multi-hit contests.
  • This is fourth scoreless outing, first this season, for Mayhood.
  • Beebe now has three multi-hit games in her career.
  • First multi-hit game of the season for junior Azya Walker and the second of her career.
GAME TWO: CENTRAL 8, HARTFORD 0 (6 inn.)
Hartford was limited to a pair of hits as the Hawks fell in six innings to Central.

Graduate Mara Sczecienski and freshman Gia Miccio each had a single for the Hawks.

Central scored runs in five of their six turns at the plate, scoring two runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings.

  • Junior Olivia Wolk had her seven-game hitting streak snapped.
