Late Rally Secures Sweep

The University of Hartford softball team swept a pair of games from Commonwealth Coast Conference foe Wentworth Saturday at the Hartford Softball Field.

GAME ONE: HARTFORD 7, WENTWORTH 1
Sophomore Carly Mayhood (4-1) was dominant in the circle as Hartford ran away with the opener. The southpaw allowed just one earned run on two hits in the complete game performance.
Wentworth took the lead on a two-out single in the top of the first inning, and it was all Hartford from there.

Graduate Mara Sczecienski's single in the bottom of the first brought home the tying run and the second run came across the plate on a throw to second base.

Hartford added a run in the third inning on an infield single by sophomore Gia Miccio, then blew the game open with three runs in the fifth inning. Three consecutive RBI hits from – freshman Sydney Matz, sophomore Shailynn Williams and freshman Alexis Sealey – accounted for the runs.

Miccio finished with a career-high three hits, going 3-for-4 with one run scored and two RBI.

GAME TWO: WENTWORTH 5, HARTFORD 3
Hartford scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth innings to secure the doubleheader sweep.
Back-to-back one-out singles by Sczecienski and Williams got the game-changing rally going. After Williams swiped second to put both runners in scoring position, an error enabled both runs to score and give the Hawks the lead. Back-to-back doubles by Sealey and freshman Adelie Beebe gave Hartford an insurance run.

Sealey (4-2) picked up the win in relief, surrendering one unearned run on one hit over three innings.

Hartford took the lead with a pair of runs in the third inning, the Leopards immediately knotted the game with two runs in the fourth. Wentworth took the lead in the fifth by virtue of a hit batter and three errors.

Eight different Hawks registered hits with Sczecienski the only Hartford player with multiple hits.
