KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Tuesday, the United Soccer Coaches (USC) first Division III national top 25 poll was released featuring the University of Hartford being ranked in the #17 spot.
The Hawks were tabbed #23 in the preseason poll announced on August 6th, before moving up six spots after the first two games of the season. In those opening contests the Hawks have two shutout performances after a 0-0 draw at Bowdoin College on September 3rd and a 2-0 victory against Montclair State University in the home opener on September 7th.
Additionally, Hartford women's soccer was tabbed #2 in Region II in the first USC regional poll only trailing Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is 3-0-0 this year and is ranked #4 nationally. Hartford also was slated #2 in Massey Ratings just trailing Washington University (Mo.) who is 3-0-0 and currently ranked #1 in the nation.
The Hawks have been led by junior goalkeeper
Sejal Johnson (Weddington, N.C.) who has two clean sheets to her name making seven saves in the opening week. Offensively graduate student
Imani Jenkins (Middletown, Conn.) and freshman Angela Chávez (Glastonbury, Conn.) have the only two goals of the season, with assists by graduate student
Christina Stone (Glastonbury, Conn.) and freshman
Alexa Frendo (Whitby, Ontario).
Hartford has a busy weekend with a game against Clarkson University on Friday September 13th and a game against Colby College on Sunday September 15th.
