MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The Hawks fell to 1-1 on Tuesday night dropping their trip up the I-91 to Wesleyan University. Hartford was unable to snag a set as the Cardinals won by a 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-16) final.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks led in the early going by a 5-3 margin behind a pair of kills by junior Sydney Ball (Enfield, Conn.). The Cardinals took the lead using a 5-0 counter. Hartford tried to recapture the lead with a 4-2 run in the middle of the set, but Wesleyan held on putting away the Hawks by a 25-18 final.
- In set two the Hawks jumped ahead again as they scored four of the first six points of the set. The Cardinals fought back however, going on a 6-2 run, topped off by a kill from Sophie Corbell. Hartford was able to come back, evening the score at 10-10, topped off by two-straight kills from Ball. Wesleyan did not take this lightly as they went on to score the next six points and ultimately won the set 25-14.
- The Cardinals continued their dominance into the third set taking a commanding 6-1 lead to start what would be the final set. Hartford tried to put together a comeback, with a couple of blocks from sophomore Jenna Murphy (East Hampton, Conn.). Wesleyan battled back with a crucial five-point spurt en route to a 25-16.
Inside The Numbers:
- Ball led the Hawks in kills with seven to go along with a pair of digs. Je. Murphy added three kills and five assisted blocks.
- Junior Kylee Connally (Dallas, Texas) led the passing attack with eight assists to go with five digs.
- Defensively junior Amaiya Lu (Lawrence, Mass.) led the defensive effort with seven digs to go with four assists.
