BLOOMFIELD, Conn.  - The Hartford men's golf team competed in the Conference of New England (CNE) Championships where they took on nine other teams and came out on top behind five freshmen. In this four Hawks were named to the CNE All-Conference Team.
 

Rapid Recap:

• Freshman Zack MacMillan (Toronto, Ontario) led the Hawks in scoring, placing second overall shooting 74 (+2) in round one, and 72 (E) in the second round for an overall score of +2.
• Next on the leaderboard just behind MacMillan were two freshman that tied for sixth, freshman Tim Kaley (Dalton, Mass.) who finished the first round 74 (+2) and the second round 76 (+4) for a weekend score of 78 (+6) to bring him into sixth place. The other Hawk to join Kaley in sixth place was freshman Griffin La Londe (Montclair, N.J.), he finished the first round at a 70 (-2) and the second round at 80 (+8).
• Freshman Manolo Vargas (Medellin, Colombia) represented Hartford well this weekend tying for ninth place when he finished the first round 76 (+4) and the second round 75 (+3) for a total score of +7.
• Freshman Shawn Amari (Townsend, Mass.) brought it home for the Hawks taking 14th place, with a first round score of 78 (+6) and a second round of 76 (+4) to bring the weekend score to a +10.

"It feels great to come through as a team," said Freshman Zack MacMillan (Toronto, Ontario). " Everyone's been grinding and we finally put a good week together as a team. It's so special to make nationals as five freshmen and we can't wait to prove ourselves in Orlando!"

Inside the Numbers:

• MacMillan finished the first round with three birdies and five bogies, and then in the second round he had two birdies and two bogies.
• Griffin had a strong round one where he shot eight birdies and four bogies.
• The Hawks finished round one with 16 birdies, and closed out round two with eight.
• The Hawks finished with a team score of +17 beating second place, Endicott College, by 11 points.

The Hawks will host a one-day event on October 7th at Bull's Bridge Golf Course in South Kent, Conn. for the Battle at Bull's Ridge this Tuesday.
