Hartford Men's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Match-Up with #1 Trinity College

HARTFORD, Conn.  - The Hartford men's basketball team dropped a road contest this Tuesday night, falling 95-68 to #1 Trinity College in a non-conference match-up. This brings their overall season record to 6-3 and the Conference of New England (CNE) holds at 1-1.

Rapid Recap:

  • Hartford opened the game with early energy, trading baskets for the first several minutes as sophomore River Eberhardt (Berlin, Conn.) and junior Kaosi Chijioke (Suwanne, Ga.) helped establish an inside presence. The Hawks maintained striking distance early, but the Bantams found their rhythm midway through the half. Trinity used a combination of transition points and perimeter shooting to build separation, with Henry Vetter and Drew Lazarre knocking down key shots. Hartford stayed aggressive on the glass behind junior Kyle Winters (Corte Madera, Calif.) who controlled the paint and created second-chance opportunities. Trinity went on to tally a 22-1 run over the Hawks to take back command on their home turf. Despite timely finishes by Eberhardt, Trinity took a 49-29 advantage into the break.
  • Out of the locker room, Hartford showed resilience, senior Kent Olewiler (York, Pa.) added big threes and drove up the lane to chase at the Bantams' heels. Yet, Trinity controlled the tempo in this second half, using its depth and defensive pressure to keep Hartford at bay. Jarrel Okorougo and Henry Vetter for Trinity fueled their offense down the stretch as Hartford continued to fight until the final horn. Sophomore Cooper Galdenzi (Clinton, Conn.) capped Hartford's late surface by going 5-6 at the free throw line in just the final 90 seconds. The Hawks battled hard but feel short finishing on the road behind, 95-68 to #1 ranked Trinity College.

  • Eberhardt lead the Hawks tonight putting up 14 points (6-12 FG, 1-4 3PT, 1-2 FT) along with seven rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. Broomfield was next on the leaderboard knocking down 10 points (4-4 FG, 2-2 3PT, 0-1 FT), grabbing three boards, and one block to end the night. Winters was strong in the paint defensively tonight nabbing nine rebounds and providing four assists.
  • Trinity's leader was Henry Vetter bringing in 20 points (7-13 FG, 4-7 3PT, 2-2 FT) along with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
  • Hartford showed out at the free throw line tonight matching the #1 ranked Trinity's percentage at 71%. Hartford struggled to maintain possession as Trinity forced 30 turnovers in this match-up taking home 20 steals.
