Hawks Struggle in Loss to Roger Williams

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Hartford men's basketball team struggled on Tuesday night falling to Roger Williams University by a 101-53 margin. 

Rapid Recap:
  • Roger Williams jumped ahead 12-5 on four three-pointers, stopped by a layup for sophomore Joshua Petion (Brooklyn, N.Y.). Junior Drew Stack (Madison, N.J.) drilled a shot from deep to keep the Hawks within five points. Sophomore Jared Similien (Brunswick, Maine) finished a layup as Hartford continued to trail 18-12, but Roger Williams took control again jumping the lead to 42-20 on a 24-8 run. Freshman Troy Santos (Taunton, Mass.) knocked down a three followed by a layup by Petion, but RWU continued to shoot lights out from behind the arc hitting four more shots from behind the arc to lead 54-26 headed into the break. 
  • Santos, Petion and sophomore Kaosi Chijioke (Atlanta, Ga.) all scored quickly as Hartford trimmed the deficit to 22 points with 17 minutes to play. Roger Williams responded with 14 straight points stopped by a three for sophomore Jaylen Brown (Baldwin, N.Y.). The home team continued to score at a high rate controling the game the rest of the way en route to the 101-53 win. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • Petion scored 11 points (5-8 FG, 1-3 FT) to go with nine rebounds, a block and a steal. Santos notched 14 points (6-14 FG, 2-8 3PT), four assists and two rebounds. Freshman Reggie Selden (Franklinville, N.J.) added seven points (3-5 FG, 1-3 3PT) and an assist. 
  • Mac Annus led Roger Williams with 27 points (9-16 FG, 7-12 3PT, 2-2 FT) to go with two assists. Ryan Higgins added 17 points (6-11 FG, 5-10 3PT) with nine rebounds. 
  • Roger Williams was unconscious from three shooting  25-51 (49.0%) from behind the arc for 75 points. Hartford ended the game going 5-26 (19.2%) from three in the loss.
