Hawks Fall to Endicott College

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  - The Hartford women's basketball team were defeated by Endicott College this Saturday with a final score 59-37.

Rapid Recap:

  • The Gulls were the first to strike of the teams with a quick jump-shot in the opening seconds, and then knocked down seven straight points against the Hawks. Sophomore Lauren Sabia (Simsbury, Conn.) drove up the lane and put away a hook shot against a couple of Gulls to halt their streak and claim her first points of the match. The Hawks closed down the Gulls lead to just three with big plays by sophomore Ava Naszimento (Secaucus, N.J.) and freshman Mikaela Williams (Windsor, Conn.). Gulls held their lead 13-10 moving into the second quarter.
  • Freshman Maya Okoro (Frisco, Texas) drained an equalizer to bring the score to 15-15 with 7:20 remaining. The teams continued to battle in the paint this quarter, the Gulls made space for themselves under the net that gave them some distance from the Hawks ending the quarter 28-22.
  • Both teams were quiet in the opening minutes. Sabia kept the Gulls at arms length putting together a five-point play in 30 seconds with a deep three beyond the arc with 4:31 to go. That fired up the Gulls as they sank a three pointer of their own and closed out the third quarter with a six-point run. The Gulls stayed up 45-31 over the Hawks.

  • The Gulls opened the fourth with a five-point run. Sabia was the Hawk again to slow their momentum with a swift layup under the arms of a defender, claiming her ninth point of this match-up. The Hawks continued to fight but the Gulls were solid in the paint and ended this final quarter with a score of 59-37.
