Hawks Roll by Curry College in Final Game of 2025

MILTON, MASS. The Hawks traveled to the commonwealth to take on Curry College Saturday, Feb. 22, in what would be their final game of the 2025 season. Hartford would come out on top in this matchup defeating the Colonels 87-74.

Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks opened the scoring as sophomore Leonard Pelzner (Berlin, Germany) knocked in a layup, followed by a three pointer from sophomore Drew Stack (Madison, N.J.) giving the Hawks an early 5-0 advantage. The Colonels would bounce back securing a 5-2 run to bring them within two. Curry would end up evening the score at 10 after the first five minutes of the game. The Colonels would end up taking the lead 22-21 at the eight minute mark. But, Hartford would make a strong surge as they put together a 18-6 run late in the first half, spearheaded by some stellar three point shooting from sophomore Kaosi Chijioke (Atlanta, GA) and freshman Troy Santos (Taunton, Mass), as well as a pair of buckets from freshman River Eberhardt (Berlin, Conn.) one of which, coming from behind the arc. The first half would conclude with the Hawks up seven leading he Colonels 40-33.
  • Hartford would come out swinging once again, as Stack would knock down another triple. Curry would begin to find their groove once more, building a 10-0 run to tie the game at 46. Over the next four or so minutes there would be three ties and three lead changes as both teams would battle back and forth. It would be the Hartford tandem of Santos and Eberhardt who would contribute for the Hawks in their effort to pull away, as after another Chijioke tre they would extend the lead to 10 with just under eight and a half left to play. Curry would not back down however, as a three-pointer from Jaiden Mann would bring the Colonels within six, Eberhardt would fire back with a three of his own, and on the following possession Stack would knock down another to extend the Hartford lead back to double digits. Another Santos three and a pair of free throws from sophomore Reggie Selden (Franklinville, N.J.) would all but seal the deal, as the Hartford lead was extended to 16 with two and half minutes to go. Hartford would come out on top in what would be their last game of the year 87-74.

"I thought we played a really good game collectively and had good energy throughout", said freshman River Eberhardt (Berlin, Conn.). "We made our shots when it mattered most. Feels great to end off on a win for momentum into next season."

Inside The Numbers:
  • Santos would lead the Hawks in scoring notching 25 points (9-15 FG, 5-6 3PT, 2-5 FT) to go with four assists, four steals, and  two rebounds. Eberhardt finished the game with 16 points (4-10 FG. 2-4 3PT, 6-9 FT) along with nine rebounds. Stack tallied 14 points (5-11 FG, 4-9 3PT) to go with four assists, and three rebounds. Chijioke ended with 12 points (5-11 FG, 2-4 3PT) with six rebounds, one assist, and one block, sophomore Josh Petion (Brooklyn, N.Y.) secured 11 points (5-5 FG, 1-1 FT) to go with three rebounds, one block and two steals.
  • Five Hawks finished the game with double digit scoring (Santos, Eberhardt, Stack, Chijioke, & Petion).
  • The game saw six lead changes and seven ties over forty minutes. 
  • Hartford shot an efficient 49.2% from the field and 46.4% from beyond the arc.
