Hawks Move Past Marymount University 15-4

ARLINGTON, VA. The Hawks flocked south to the Old Dominion to take on the saints of Marymount University this Wednesday, resulting in a 15-4 victory. 

Rapid Recap:

  • Marymount struck first on the scoresheet giving themselves a 1-0 lead after ten minutes of play in the first period. Hartford would quickly counter with a goal only twenty seconds later from sophomore Jack Hart (Grafton, Mass.). Later in the period sophomore Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.) would score with 20 seconds left in the period giving the Hawks a 2-0 Lead. 
  • In the second period Hartford opened up the scoring as sophomore Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) would open the second period only six seconds after the initial whistle coming off an assist from sophomore Ben Constanzo (Chester, Conn.). Hartford would continue to open up the scoring as freshman Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) would score for Hartford increasing their lead to three. Ezra would again find the back of the net with just about nine and half minutes until halftime. Marymount would retaliate with a goal but Hartford would strike back with a pair of their own goals from sophomore Thomas Brunelli (Norwich, Conn.) and sophomore Maxton McPhee (Dudley, Mass.). The Hawks would go into halftime with a 7-2 lead. 
  • To begin the second half Hartford would again put numbers on the board scoring a goal from freshman Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.), with an assist from graduate student Jake Ojert (Doylestown, Pa.). Once again the Hawks would score this time the goal coming from Ojert and the assist from Wright. The saints would score once again but Novotny would score once again and Marymount would finish the third period with another goal with a 10-4 score going into the fourth and final period.
  • Hartford would continue to light up the score sheet in the fourth period with goals coming from Pelletier, Ojert, McPhee, and a pair of goals from Junior Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.) 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Six Hawks finished today's game with two goals (Forgione, Pelletier, Ojert, Ezra, Novotny, McPhee).
  • Ezra finished with two assists, leading the playmaking charge for Hartford,five Hawks would also finish with one assist (Pelletier, Kemp, Ojert, Wright, Constanzo).
  • Junior Tobias Ballester (Westwood, N.J.) led the charge on the defense for Hartford with seven ground balls and one caused turnover. Senior Ryan Verano (Avon, Conn.) finished with two caused turnovers, and two ground balls.
  • In net for Hartford sophomore CJ Ledwick (Falmouth, Mass.) finished with 12 saves, four goals allowed giving him a .750 save percentage.

"We weren't able to get off to the start of the year that we wanted to, but there is so much belief between everyone on this team. And today was a great step in getting back in the direction we need to go." said Kemp.

The Hawks will return to Al-Marzook Field for their next matchup against the Blue Jays of University of St. Joseph on Saturday March. 22 with a faceoff slated to start at 3:00PM.
