WEST HARTFORD, CONN. The Hawks hosted Wheaton College Saturday, Mar. 22 at noon. Wheaton would come out on top 8-6 through nine innings.
Rapid Recap:
- Sophomore Anthony Bubba (Jefferson, N.J.) started on the bump for Hartford and got out of the first inning unscaved with a 1-2-3 inning. However, Wheaton bats would find life in the top of the second inning putting three runs on the board giving them an early lead. Hartford would quickly come back in the bottom of the second as junior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.) would lead the inning off with a single and come around to score off a RBI single from junior Jackson Ciccone (Danbury, Conn.) With the bases loaded, junior John Russell (Eastchester, N.Y.) would ground into a double play with no outs that would score junior Joshua Kaplan (Suffern, N.Y.). Later in the second, graduate student Jake Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) would hit an RBI single that would even the game for Hartford.

In the third inning Kaplan would reach again on a fielder's choice and would come around to score off a RBI double from Ciccone that would give Hartford a lead. In the top of the fourth inning Wheaton would score on a no out double play with the bases loaded that would tie the game once again. This tie would be broken in the top of the fifth inning by Wheaton via a 4-3 RBI with one out.

In the bottom of the seventh inning Hartford would tie the game once more as junior Jeremy Mangiamelli (Middlefield, Conn.) would get on base with a lead off single and come around to score coming off an RBI double for Ciccone. In the next at bat Russell would bat in Ciccone to give the lead back to Hartford. In the next inning Wheaton would retaliate, scoring off another RBI groundout to tie the game at six a piece.

In the top of the ninth Wheaton would again break the tie scoring off an RBI single into left center. The Lyons would extend this lead in the next at bat as a single into left field would score another run giving Wheaton an 8-6 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. They would hold into the bottom of the ninth, as Hartford would not be able to put another run on the board and would fall with a final score of 8-6.
At the Plate:
- Sophomore J.J. Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) finished the game going 4-5 from the plate, Ciccone finished the game 3-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Santiago ended up going two for four with an RBI, Mangiamelli slashed two for five and scored.
On the Mound:
- On the Mound: Bubba threw seven innings giving up seven hits, with three strikeouts, two walks. Junior Sam Smith (Branford, Conn.) threw 1.1 innings. Junior Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, N.J.) came into the top of the ninth to throw 0.2 innings giving up one hit and one strikeout.
