TROY, N.Y. - The Hartford softball team fell in both games on Saturday to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute falling in game one by a 1-0 final before dropping game two 4-1.
Rapid Recap Game 1 (L 1-0):
- Sophomore Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) singled to kick off the game to start things off, before senior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.) picked up a second single to get two runners on in the first, but the runners ended up being stranded. The teams stayed even at 0-0 through four innings with junior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) having five strikeouts.
- The Engineers took the lead in the bottom of the fifth on three hits and a defensive error. Hartford could not make a come back falling by a 1-0 score.
In the Circle:
- Mayhood picked up the loss tossing 4.2 innings allowing one run on six hits with five punch outs. Freshman Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) got the final four outs while just allowing a single hit.
At The Plate:
- Sealey led the offense going 2-for-4 with a double. Junior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) went 1-for-3 with a double, while Wolk added a 1-for-3 game in the loss.
Rapid Recap Game 2 (L 4-1):
- The Engineers got the lead in the bottom of the first inning on a RBI single through the right side after a lead off walk. The lead expanded to 4-0 in the second inning as RPI got an RBI walk and a RBI up the middle. The Hawks bats stayed silent until the top half of the sixth inning.
- Hartford would get on the board as Sophomore Sydney Matz (Ellington, Conn.) scored Miccio with an RBI ground out. The Hawks could not make a comeback in the seventh falling 4-1.
In the Circle:
- Zobel picked up the loss tossing three innings allowing four runs to go with three strikeouts. Sophomore Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) finished the game throwing three innings getting two strikeouts while just allowing a single hit.
At The Plate:
- Junior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) led the offense going 3-for-3, with a double. Wolk went 2-for-2 in the second game with a walk. Miccio added a run going 1-for-3 with a double.
Up Next:
The Hawks will be at home for the first time on March 27th against the University of Saint Joseph with a start time of 3:30 PM.
