Hawks Baseball Drops Game to #19 Penn State Harrisburg 11-7

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The University of Hartford baseball team dropped a non-conference game on Saturday to #19 Penn State Harrisburg by a 11-7 final. 
 
Rapid Recap:
  • The Hawks jumped in front in the second inning as junior Ryan Knight (Peabody, Mass.) doubled home graduate student Jake Santiago (Bristol, Conn.) to give Hartford a 1-0 lead. The Nittany Lions countered in the top half of the fourth inning taking a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly and RBI ground out. The advantage continued to expand in the fifth inning as Penn State Harrisburg got two more runs on a RBI single and a sac fly. 
  • The Hawks would take the lead back in the bottom of the frame as sophomore JJ Romatzick (Stratford, Conn.) singed home a pair of runs, before Santiago came in clutch with a two RBI single up the middle to give Hartford the 5-4 lead. The Nittany Lions would respond quickly getting four runs in the top of the sixth on six hits. The lead grew to 11-5 in the top of the seventh with another three runs on three hits. Santiago tried to get Hartford back in the game launching a homerun, but the Nittany Lions closed the game to pickup the 11-7 win. 
On the Mound:
  • Sophomore Anthony Bubba (Jefferson, N.J.) got the start going five innings allowing three runs with eight strikeouts. Freshman Christian Kells (Madison, Conn.) picked up the loss getting two outs and allowing four runs. Junior Michael Featherstone (Ramsey, N.J.) followed with 1.1 innings allowing three runs (two earned). Junior Logan Huzi (Trumbull, Conn.) closed things out hurling two innings with a pair of punch outs. 
At the Plate:
  • Santiago led the offense going 4-for-5 with a long ball, four RBIs, a double and two runs scored. Knight went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored. Romatzick added a 1-for-4 game with two RBIs and a run scored. 
Up Next:
The Hawks will take on #19 Penn State Harrisburg in the final game in Virginia tomorrow with a 11:00 AM start.
