SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Hawks softball team opened up the 2025 season on Sunday dropped both games of a double header against Springfield College
Rapid Recap Game 1 (L 8-4):
- The teams stayed silent in the first two innings as junior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) was dealing early. The Pride jumped ahead by four runs in the bottom of the third on four hits and a defensive error. The Hawks would get two runs back in the fourth as sophomore Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) singled to right field before senior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.) launched a home run over the right field wall.
- In the bottom of the fifth Springfield would generate some insurance runs getting four more runs on five hits to push the lead to 8-2. Hartford would respond in the top of the sixth getting two more runs back as Sealey singled home freshman Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.). Wolk followed it up with a double to right field to plate Sealey. The Hawks would not get another opportunity as the Pride would win 8-4.
In the Circle:
- Mayhood picked up the loss tossing three innings allowing four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Sophomore Aex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) followed with three innings allowing four runs on seven hits with a punch out.
At the Plate:
- Wolk led the offensive effort going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and the home run. Sealey went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Sophomore Adelie Beebe (Sacramento, Calif.) added a 1-for-3 performance in the game one loss.
Rapid Recap Game 2 (L 11-9):
- In the second game the Pride jumped ahead 1-0 after an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. The lead doubled to 2-0 in the second inning as a wild pitch plated the second run. Hartford would respond in a big way in the top of the fourth scoring four runs. Beebe kicked it off with a single to plate Wolk who led off the inning with a triple. Freshman Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) followed it up with a RBI double to even the score. The Hawks would take the lead as freshman Holly Myers (Erving, Mass.) hit a clutch single scoring both Zobel and junior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.).
- The Pride would counter in the bottom of the fifth inning getting three runs on five hits to take back the lead at 5-4. Hartford would even the score in the top of the sixth as junior Lauren Ackerman (North Branford, Conn.) reached on a fielder's choice as sophomore Sydney Matz (Ellington, Conn.) came around to score. The game blew open in the bottom of the frame scoring six runs to give the home team a 11-5 advantage.
- Hartford would try and battle back getting four runs in the seventh inning including a two RBI single by Baran, but the Hawks couldn't complete the comeback falling short 11-9.
In the Circle:
- Zobel got the start for the Hawks throwing 3.1 innings of work with a strikeout allowing two runs on five hits. Sophomore Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) picked up the loss allowing nine runs (six earned) with a strikeout in 2.2 innings.
At the Plate:
- Matz had a stellar second game going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a RBI. Baran went 2-for-2 in the second game with a pair of RBIs and walks. Zobel added a 2-for-3 game with two runs, two doubles and an RBI.
Up Next:
The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday in a double header against Framingham State University with first pitch scheduled for 2:30 PM.
