BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Hartford men's lacrosse team fall 10-9 to Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday afternoon with an extra quarter dramatic finish.
Rapid Recap:
- The Hawks kicked off this tense match-up with an early goal by sophomore Nick Forgione (Denville, N.J.) who swiftly found the back of the net with a nice assist from sophomore Ethan Hunt (Skaneateles, N.Y.). The Wentworth Leopards had several attempts to respond including a shot from Kobi Buffa that hit the post, the Hawks defense and goalie sophomore CJ Ledwick (New Milford, Conn.) kept them off the scoreboard. At 1:15 the Hawks strengthened their lead to 2-0 with a goal from sophomore Michael Novotny (Cornwall, N.Y.) assisted by sophomore Aidan Ezra (New Milford, Conn.). Freshman Shaun Wright (Frederick, Md.) almost nabbed another goal but just hit the post with seconds remaining in the first.
- The Leopards broke the ice cutting Hartford's lead to 2-1 in the opening minute with a goal from Erik Vogt. The Hawks struggled this quarter to find the back of the net but still took chances when they saw them. The Leopards would score three goals this quarter breaking through the Hawks defense to take the lead up 4-2 heading into halftime.
- Hartford entered the second half building off the momentum and motivation found during the halftime talk, Wright scored and capitalized on an extra-man opportunity to bring the game to 4-3 with an assist from Novotny. Leopards maintained distance on the hawks to cushion their lead to 5-3 with a goal from Drew Bouley. Novotny and sophomore Maxton McPhee (Dudley, Mass.) were the two players to bring the Hawks to an even 5-5 with 6:14 remaining each scoring back to back goals. At 4:29, Hartford snagged the lead back with a powerful goal by Ezra assisted by Hunt. Quick to follow was Wright who was on fire tonight increasing the lead to 7-5 as this game as flipped with 3:13 to go. The Leopards were not going to let the Hawks run away with this as they finished out the third with a pair of goals from Brendan Kroll and Kobi Buffa each scored in the final minute. Another equalizer to end a quarter now 7-7.
- The fourth quarter began with the Hawks' freshman Gavin Pelletier (Southington, Conn.) scored in the first minute with an assist from Ezra taking back the lead 8-7. Wright continued to be strong on the attack ripping a shot into the Leopards' net to bring their score up by two. The Leopards struggled to find the back of the net and had difficulty breaking through the wall of Ledwick. That until 5:56 when Gabe Cobham found some space to get back on the board 9-8. And yet another equalizer to close out the final quarter to bring the two teams into an extra inning to decide a winner, this goal scored by Wentworth's Tyler Longo.
- In the extra four minutes of play the Leopards hit the post at 2:41, Erik Vogt picked up the rebound and capitalized to score at 2:38 to end this match with a dramatic finish. 10-9 over the Hawks.

Inside The Numbers:
- CNE Rookie of the Week Shaun Wright lead the Hawks in points with multiple season highs in overall points at five, goals at three, assists at two, playing 61 minutes, and picking up one ground ball. Ezra also had a strong performance this afternoon with three points, one goal, tow assists, and picking up one ground ball.
- In net for the Hawks, Ledwick had 13 saves in today's match-up.
- At the face off circle sophomore Ben Costanzo (Chester, Conn.) went 15-22 today and nabbed seven ground balls.
