WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Hartford softball team split its fourth-straight series on Tuesday against Eastern Connecticut State University, winning game one 5-1 before falling 8-0 in game two.
Rapid Recap Game 1 (W, 5-1):
- The Warriors jumped ahead 1-0 in the first inning on a sacrifice fly after a pair of walks. The Hawks responded quickly as senior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.) hit a sacrifice fly to score sophomore Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) who reached on a single. Freshman Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) added a ribby single scoring junior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) who also singled in the frame as the home team led 2-1 after one inning. Sealey gave herself some run support in the bottom of the second as she singled home junior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) who doubled to start the inning as the lead hit 3-1.
- Sealey was tremendous in the circle not allowing a run the rest of the way while only allowing two base runners to second base in the final six innings. Hartford got some added run support in the bottom of the sixth as Wolk singled home freshman Katrina Baran (Townsend, Del.) and sophomore Sydney Matz (Ellington, Conn.) as the Hawks won 5-1.
In the Circle:
- Sealey picked up the win going all seven innings allowing a single run on two hits to go with five strikeouts.
At The Plate:
- Sealey went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run, RBI and stolen base. Miccio went 1-for-1 with a run scored and a walk, Wolk added a 1-for-2 day with three RBIs and a walk.
Rapid Recap Game 2 (L, 8-0):
- After a clean first inning, but the Warriors jumped ahead 1-0 in the second on a RBI double. After the bats stayed silent in the second for the Hawks, Eastern Connecticut exploded in the third scoring seven times on six hits and two defensive errors. The Hawks would only manage two hits in the game falling by the 8-0 margin in five innings.
In the Circle:
- Junior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) fell to 5-5 allowing seven runs (five earned) over seven outs with three punch outs. Zobel followed going 1.2 innings allowing just one run to go with a strikeout. Sophomore Gracie Hopkins (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) closed the game with a single inning setting down one and allowing just a hit.
At The Plate:
- Freshman Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) went 1-for-1 in the loss with a stolen base. Miccio added the other hit going 1-for-2 with a stolen bag.
Up Next:
The Hawks will host Western New England University on Wednesday for a doubleheader with a 3:00 PM start.
