WEST HARTFORD, CONN. The Colonels of Curry came into town Saturday for a senior day double header, in which the Hawks and the Colonels would split the series at one win a piece.
Game 1:
Rapid Recap:
- A pitcher's duel would unfold through the first four and a half innings as this game would remain scoreless until the fifth. Junior Carly Mayhood (Newton, N.J.) pitched a stellar outing going all seven innings and giving up only five hits.
- The stalemate finally ended in the bottom of the fifth inning as Hartford would take the first lead of the game, by way of an RBI double from junior Taylor Fitch (Andover, Conn.), the scoring would continue as sophomore Bridget Bernard would come in to pitch hit and drive in an RBI single up the middle that would score Fitch. The fifth would continue to be a big inning for the Hawks as sophomore Alexis Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) would score coming off an error from the Colonel shortstop. Later in the inning, senior Olivia Wolk (Sugarloaf, Pa.) would drive a SAC fly to center field, increasing the Hawk lead to 4-0.
- In the sixth Fitch would add some insurance for the Hawks as she would hit a single into left field that would be bobbled by the Curry left fielder and allow for freshman Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) to score.
- In the top of the seventh the Colonels would cause a little bit of trouble for the Hawks as they would score a run and load the bases, however Mayhood would find her way out of the jam, and secure the victory 5-1.
At the Plate:
- Freshman Lucy Lembo (Albany, N.Y.) slashed two for three on the day, Fitch finished the day going two for three with an RBI double, Bernard went perfect in her one at bat with an RBI, junior Gia Miccio (Bellmore, N.Y.) went one for three with an RBI. Junior Anita Farkash (Seaford, N.Y.) went one for three with a double.
In the Circle:
- Mayhood threw a complete game in game one, giving up only five hits, two walks, with six strikeouts, and giving up only one run.
Game 2:
Rapid Recap:
- The scoring started early in game two as Hartford would gain an early advantage in the bottom of the first inning by way of an RBI single from Wolk.
- In the second inning Curry would fight back with an RBI double and a an RBI single to give the Colonels a 2-1 advantage.
- Curry would extend their lead in the sixth inning and jump ahead six to one. Hartford would fight back in the bottom of the sixth as senior Azya Walker (Oak Forest, Illinois) would come across to score, but unfortunately it would not be enough to close the gap and WNE would take the win 6-2.
At the Plate:
- Wolk would go two for two, with an RBI and a stolen base. Sealey finished the second game 1 for four with a double, as well as coming across to score, Walker went one for two with a double and a run. Miccio would go one for three, as well as notching a stolen base.
In the Circle:
- Sophomore Alex Hassett (Granby, Conn.) pitched two innings, giving up two hits, two runs, and two strikeouts. Freshman Ella Zobel (Clarence, N.Y.) came into relief and pitched two innings, allowing no runs, one hit, and two strikeouts. Sealey would take the circle for three innings allowing four runs, on three hits, to go alongside a strikeout.
Post Game Press:
"Moving forward we just have to maintain energy and momentum, throughout the second game… we just got to work on ourselves find that within each one of us, and come out and play harder each game." said Wolk.
"We just need to stay attacking and stay here mentally, if we keep attacking we'll be pretty set going into the postseason. We haven't had a postseason in a few years so it will be exciting to feel that energy and excitement, and see what we can do." Serrano said.
"We just need to work well as a team in the second game, we do a great job in the first game, and in the second game it becomes a lot of individual play. We just need to bring what we bring to the first game into the second, and we would be a great team." said Walker.

The Hawks head to the commonwealth to take on Williams College, Tuesday Apr. 22 in a doubleheader slated to start at 3:30PM.
